The third generation in vitro fertilization (IVF) technology provides genetic diagnosis before embryo implantation. Based on the second generation technology, during the cleavage or blastocyst stage, a small amount of cells from the embryo are removed and chromosomes or even genes are tested to exclude pathogenic genes before embryo transfer.
